This hearty Cheesy Beef and Potato Casserole is a comforting dish featuring layers of mashed potato nuggets, seasoned ground beef, and a creamy mushroom sauce topped with melted Cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 20 pieces potato nuggets
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste none steak seasoning
  • to taste none garlic powder
  • to taste none black pepper
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • splash none milk
  • 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Evenly spread 20 potato nuggets across the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Bake the potato nuggets in the oven for about 10 minutes until they are heated through.
  4. While the nuggets are baking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is browned, which will take around 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat afterwards.
  5. Season the cooked beef with 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, along with steak seasoning, garlic powder, and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, a splash of milk, 1/2 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese, and an extra teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, mixing until smooth.
  7. After the potato nuggets are done, mash them down to create a solid base in the baking dish. Layer the seasoned beef mixture over the mashed potatoes evenly.
  8. Pour the creamy soup mixture over the beef layer, ensuring it spreads evenly. Top with the remaining potato nuggets and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the dish is bubbling and the top layer of potatoes turns golden brown.
