This Citrus Plum Liqueur is a delightful infusion of fresh plums, vanilla, and a hint of orange, perfect for sipping or as a unique addition to cocktails.
Ingredients
16 cups plums
1 cup sugar
3 cups vodka
1.5 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 cup orange peel
Method
Start by placing 8 cups of fresh plums into a large, sealable glass jar, pressing them down gently to fit them snugly.
Sprinkle half of the sugar over the plums, then pour in 1.5 cups of your choice of vodka.
Add 3/4 tablespoon of vanilla extract and toss in half of the orange peel slices.
Layer the remaining 8 cups of plums on top, pressing them down firmly.
Repeat by adding the rest of the sugar, another 1.5 cups of vodka, 3/4 tablespoon of vanilla extract, and the remaining orange peel.
Seal the jar tightly with its lid.
To prevent any leaks, carefully drip wax from an unscented candle around the edge of the lid.
Wrap the jar in a dark towel to block out light and store it on its side in a cool, dark place.
Turn the jar daily for 21 days, replacing the towel as needed to keep it dark.
After 21 days, strain the mixture through a fine sieve lined with cheesecloth to separate the liquid from the solids.
Finally, pour the liqueur into decorative bottles and seal them tightly.
