Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup raisins

Method

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing a 9x5 inch loaf pan, preferably glass.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter and sugar, creaming them together until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Gradually add in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the sour cream.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Carefully fold this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Gently incorporate the raisins into the batter.
  4. Pour the finished batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 50 to 60 minutes. The bread is ready when a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
