These zesty tuna cakes are a quick and flavorful option for dinner, served on buns with fresh vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 2 cans canned tuna
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion
  • 1/4 cup celery
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon hot chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon regular chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • a dash hot pepper sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 pieces burger buns
  • 1 sliced tomato
  • a few leaves lettuce

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix together canned tuna, a beaten egg, bread crumbs, finely diced onion, chopped celery, minced red bell pepper, mayonnaise, both hot and regular chili sauces, fresh dill, salt, pepper, a sprinkle of hot pepper sauce, and Worcestershire sauce until well blended.
  2. Form the mixture into four gentle patties. If you prefer, chill them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to make them easier to handle.
  3. In a nonstick skillet, lightly coat the surface with cooking spray and heat it up. Cook the tuna cakes for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, taking care while flipping them as they are delicate.
  4. For serving, place the cooked cakes on burger buns and add fresh tomato slices and crisp lettuce for extra crunch, if desired.
